I don't think so, If the vehicle shifts in to neutral, the vehicle will decelerate, and you have more chances being rear ended.

I had a terrible accident in January in my 2015 Cherokee. I do not remember the accident but I received a call from a woman that had been driving behind me when the accident occurred. The woman stated that I was driving perfectly normal and all of the sudden I hit a guardrail. I suffered a concussion and disc herniations and could not remember the accident. I am wondering if this happened to me as now I have 2014 jeep cherokee that is being recalled for the same problem. Perhaps the vehicle shifted into neutral causing me to hit the guardrail. Is there anyway to find out if that was the case? The car was totaled so I would assume there isn't but its definitely possible that is what happened.
