Halfshaft may Disengage/Loss of Drive

If the left front halfshaft disengages or breaks, the vehicle will have a loss of drive. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked without using the parking brake, the vehicle may roll, despite being in ‘Park.’ Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Compass vehicles equipped with a 6-speed transmission.

The left front halfshaft may not be properly seated, and, as a result, it may disengage from the transmission and/or break.

Remedy

Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will inspect the left front halfshaft for engagement and replace any that are not properly engaged in the transmission, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin on June 23, 2017.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – T2605102017

FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2017 model year (MP) Jeep Compass front-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with the 6-speed Aisin Transmission (Sales Code DF7).
Some of the above vehicles may have a left front half shaft that is not properly seated. A customer may hear a grinding noise if the half shaft is not fully seated, with a popping noise if the shaft breaks at the circlip groove during vehicle operation. If a left front half shaft disengages from the transmission and/or breaks, the customer will experience a loss of motive power and the ability to shift, including the achievement of park. This could cause a crash without warning.

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to inspect the left front half shaft for engagement in the transmission and replace any left front half shafts that are not properly engaged.

VINs identified as being involved in this campaign are currently live and searchable.

Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2017.
