Cold Temperature Initial Start-Up – Power Steering Whine-Like Sound
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the remote mounted power steering reservoir.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.7L or 3.0L engine (sales code EZB and EXL respectively). In addition, this bulletin applies to domestic market vehicles built prior to October 29, 2005 (MDH 1029XX), and to international market (Graz built) vehicles built prior to December 15, 2005 (MDH 1215XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a whine-like sound only during an initial cold engine start-up. This condition may start to occur only at ambient temperatures of 0°C (32°F) or lower, and only immediately after engine start. The sound may be in short duration but may increase as the ambient temperature decreases.
This condition should not be confused with normal power steering system sounds. Do not replace the power steering pump for this condition.
A new power steering reservoir for the hydraulic cooling / power steering systems has been released that internally improves fluid flow at lower ambient temperatures. The change is internal to the reservoir, the external view of the reservoir remains unchanged.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer experiences the above condition perform the Repair Procedure.
