Improper Air Bag Information/FMVSS 208

The incorrect information may change how close the occupants position themselves to the air bags, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Ram ProMaster vehicles.

The sun visor, dashboard labels, and owner’s manuals incorrectly state that the vehicles are equipped with frontal driver and passenger advanced air bags when they are not.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

Remedy

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will correct the sun visor labels, the dashboard (hangtag) label, and the owner’s manual and user guide information, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin June 9, 2017.

Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

Chrysler’s number for this recall is T24.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – T2405022017

FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2014 through 2017 model year (VF) RAM ProMaster vehicles.

Some of the above vehicles may have non-compliant sun visor labels, dashboard (hangtag) labels, and Owner’s Manual and User’s Guide information.  This noncompliance involves a misidentification of the frontal passenger non-advanced airbags as “Advanced Airbags”.

In the event that customers relied on the Owner’s Manual and/or User’s Guide information, they may believe that the frontal airbags may deploy with output adjusted to specific vehicle and crash conditions and they may position themselves closer to the airbag. This may result in enhanced injuries in the event of an airbag deployment.

The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208 Occupant Crash Protection.

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to mail the customer two sun visor labels that will permanently adhere to the existing labels, one hangtag label, a User’s Guide addendum supplement with an adhesive to bond to the existing User’s Guide and an instruction sheet.

NOTE:  The Monroney labels may also contain incorrect information regarding the airbag system.  Correct Monroney labels will be shipped to dealers for all unsold vehicles.

Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods.  This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2017.

We ask that you please take the time to ensure that your personnel are aware of this communication and are prepared to execute a customer friendly process for inquiries regarding involved vehicles.
