Summary
The Braun Corporation (Braun) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chrysler
Voyager vehicles, equipped with certain GO-ES Space Saver Foldaway Seats. The recliner mechanism may not engage when the seat back is fully reclined. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and repair the seat as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 27, 2024. Owners may contact Braun customer service at 1-800-488-0359.

Descriptive Information : This recall is in response to freedman seating recall 24E026. The vin listing was determined by all vehicles potentially built with the affected Freedman Seat. We were only shipped 103 units of potentially affected seats, however, 199 BraunAbility vehicles containing this type of seat were produced during this timeframe.

Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : Per the Freedman Mobility Non-compliance report: The seat back may not support an FMVSS 210 shoulder belt load when it is in the fully reclined position.

Description of the Safety Risk : If the seat back recliner mechanism is not fully engaged the seat back could release when a substantial load is applied to the shoulder belt potentially increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a vehicle crash.
Description of the Cause : Incorrect welding process and use of welding fixtures.

On May 13th, 2024 we were notified of recall 24E-026, in response we are submitting our own recall for the units produced potentially containing the affected equipment. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Freedman will notify those vehicle builders who purchased seats and
Freedman will provide a Seat Inspection & Repair Procedure. Freedman will reimburse the cost of any repairs relating to this recall at no cost to the vehicle manufacturer, dealer or owner. The recall will begin in May 2024. The remedy will consist of a visual inspection of the recliner mechanism lever when the seat back is in the upright and reclined positions. Instructions have been developed for this inspection and in how to determine if the seat requires rework. If the seat requires rework, instructions have been provided on how to do this. Seat disassembly nor no new parts are required.
BraunAbility will reimburse dealer labor to inspect potentially affected units and repair affected units. Reimbursement will be handled through our warranty claim system. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Per Freedman: The position of the recliner mechanism handle for the remedy component will be in the same position when the seat back is in the upright and the reclined positions. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production :
Per Freedman: The production welder was trained on the correct use of the welding fixtures. Also, the welding fixture was modified to make it easier to use. Finally, there is a quality check during final seat assembly to verify recliner mechanism is fully engaged in reclined position of the seat back. Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Dealers have already been notified of Freedman’s recall 5-14-2024, but
will be notified again once our recall number has been issued. Owner’s Notification to follow.
