Descriptive Information : Some 2023 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles may have been built with a second-row seatbelt buckle with an insufficiently torqued fastener, which may result in reduced occupant restraint capabilities. The suspect period began on July 12, 2023, when the first vehicle was produced with a seat belt buckle with low torque, and ended on July 13, 2023, when vehicles with sufficiently torqued seat belt buckle fasteners were produced. Supplier traceability and vehicle production records were used to identify the suspect population. Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built before or after the suspect period, were built with properly torqued fasteners, or were repaired prior to release from the vehicle production plant. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) 210 S4.2.4 requires that, “Anchorages, attachment hardware, and attachment bolts shall be tested by simultaneously loading them in accordance with the applicable procedures “[…]”. A seat belt buckle fastener that is insufficiently torqued may reduce load management capability and occupant restraint effectiveness, which may not be

• On July 19, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to a second row seat belt buckle anchor bolt, which may not have been tightened to the specified torque requirements on some 2023 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. • From July 2023, through November 2024, FCA US TSRC met with FCA US engineering and manufacturing to review the issue, understand the failure mode, and to determine the suspect population. • From November 2023, through May 2024, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of field records and customer assistance records to understand potential customer consequences. • On May 22, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue existed on certain vehicles related to a condition that can lead to reduced occupant restraint performance of the second row seat belt buckle potentially resulting in a noncompliance with FMVSS No. 210. • On June 6, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to
inspect and, if necessary, torque the second row seat buckle bolt to the proper torque specification.
FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
The remedy component will be a second row seat buckle bolt which is tightened to the proper torque specification. Identify How/When Recall Condition NR was Corrected in Production : Recall Schedule :
