I have a 2011 Jeep Patriot . I was just told my subframe was cracked and rusted. Only 9 years old . My question is this considered under the extended warranty recall for the front and rear crossmembers? Will they pay for it or is this something I will have to pay for can anyone help ! Thank you

This is extended warranty, make a complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
If they get enough complaints, maybe they can force Chrysler to do a Recall.
Disgusted with Chrysler
I have a 2008 Dodge Caliber. I replaced the front cross member in 2018 & was reimbursed due to it being on an “extended warranty” list. We had no idea the whole underneath was actively rusting out.
I was leaving work & the back cross member broke. The AAA driver said I probably would have been killed had I made it out on the road & been going 55mph.
Just like all of you, Chrysler refused to fix my rusted out car that THEY BUILT because it was past the “extended warranty” time. Really? How can there be a deadline when our cars didn’t rust over night?
Just think of the thousands of consumers who are driving these cars that Chrysler KNOWS have a potential to cause serious injury &/or fatality! They chose the “extended warranty” , because consumers didn’t have to be notified like they would if a RECALL was used.
SHAME ON CHRYSLER.

Shame on Chrysler. Daughter in-law’s 2007 Caliber was just discovered to be completely rusted out. Must have had holes for years. Coverage under extended warranty ended April 2018. Of course she would have had it fixed if someone told her. She just put $1900 into the car for other things and has kept it regularly serviced. I did the front. Dealer wants $1900-$2300 to do rear. Should have been recalled. What is she supposed to do? Junk it?

Either this Recall bulletin is outdated or the manufacturer it is not covering this issue.
I own a Jeep Patriot 2008 in Quebec, Canada. After been told by a mechanic that the subframe it’s completely rusty and that it needs to be replaced. I reach them asking about a recall on this issue as said in this bulletin, but they said that there is not such a recall available on my vehicle. I guess i’m gonna have to solve this issue in any other garage from my pocket :S .

I too have this vehicle. It appears that the recall extended the warranty for 10 yrs. Our vehicles are 2008, therefor as of jan 1, 2019 the recall is out of warranty for us because the vehicles are officially 11 years old. I think its crap myself because obviously the rust didnt happen overnight and its obvious that the issue was present in December 2018 but the will not honor it now. Pathetic if you ask me!!!

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger R/T. Was just informed by the shop after having an oil change done and a multi point inspection that the rear suspension crossmember is corroded and in need of replacement.
Has anyone else had this problem and could it also be part of the recall for the Caliber, Patriot and Compass ?
Todd Bencivenga
I had the crossmember repair done on my 2012 Caliber. However, The dealership informed me that after the repair the car need to be aligned? It did not need the alignment prior to the repair. The service manager claimed Dodge does not cover the alignment once the repair is made. This is ridiculous, the defect repair caused the need for the alignment. If it is not rectified It will be the last Dodge product I purchase.

I have a 2011 Dodge Caliber that the uni-body is rusted and making a lot of noises when i drive it and feels very unsafe. I brought it to Bettenhausen Dodge in Orland Park, il. and they told me it would all be covered, then a week later before i’m scheduled to bring it in the service guy text’s me and said that i will have an out of pocket expense if other parts are needed to replace it. I should not be responsible for any part or labor for this replacement!!! Has anyone else had this issue? I am supposed to bring the car in this Tuesday for the extended warranty repair and not sure what i should do since i do NOT have the money for additional charges that they want to charge me. This is unacceptable that they would even think the customer should pay for any part of this. VERY UPSET in Illinois. Any advice out there?

We Chrysler Techs get the worst of it, especially with the rear subframe. It is a knock-down drag out fight to R&R these. All the connecting/interfering components are usually junk also in the “Rust Belt” area of the country. There’s nothing like earning minimum wage(or less) on a Chrysler warranty!

I have a 2009 Dodge Caliber that has both crossmembers rusted through. It was built in the US then exported and sold through a dealer in Canada. It was then either imported back to the US or the owner moved to the US. I bought it used and live in one of the salt laden states (Michigan). However, Chrysler is refusing to honor the extended warranty. This should be illegal.

You can make an complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ and try a different dealer.

Even the three year 36,000 mile warranty is void stateside on a former Canadian sold car!
