Intermittent No Start And/Or Instrument Cluster 4WD Indicator Lamp Illuminated
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the wire harness for chafing and repairing or replacing the harness as necessary.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: NAFTA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before May 27, 2015 (MDH 0527XX) equipped with 2.4L Engine (Sales Code ED6 or ED8).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe the instrument cluster 4WD indicator lamp is illuminated and/or an intermittent no start condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are set. If DTCs are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
- Follow the transmission wire harness from the Power Distribution Center (PDC) towards the transmission (1) to locate the wire harness retainer clip positioned about 12 inches from the PDC connection (Fig. 1).

- Near the transmission harness retainer clip location, inspect for any contact (1) between the transmission shift cable bracket (3) and the transmission electrical harness (2) (Fig. 1).

- Inspect the transmission electrical harness for any chafing damage (1) at the point of contact between the electrical harness and the shift cable bracket (Fig. 3).
- If the transmission harness copper wires are exposed (1) or damaged due to chafing, replace the harness ( 3). Continue to Step #4.
- If the transmission harness copper wires are not exposed or damaged, repair the harness outer covering (2) with tape if needed (Fig. 3). Then proceed to Step #5.
- If the transmission harness wires are exposed (1) due to chafing, replace the harness (Fig. 3).

- Relocate the transmission electrical harness (1) from the previous clipping location (3) to the new clipping location (2) on the battery positive cable in order to prevent harness chafing (Fig. 4).

- Clear any DTCs that may have been set due to wire chafing.
