Liftgate Open Indicator Illuminated And Liftgate Will Not Latch Fully

 

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves replacing the liftgate bumpers, liftgate weatherstrip, and adjusting the liftgate latch.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may describe the liftgate open indicator is illuminated in the instrument cluster information center (Fig. 1) and/or the liftgate does not close fully.

When the liftgate is shut, the liftgate latch engages the striker with the first latch position but does not achieve the second latch position.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.

 

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove and discard the two liftgate bumpers (1) (Fig. 2).
2. Install two NEW liftgate bumpers (1) listed in the Parts Required section of this bulletin (Fig. 2).

3. Remove and discard the liftgate weatherstrip (1) (Fig. 3).
4. Install the NEW liftgate weatherstrip (1) listed in the Parts Required section of this bulletin (Fig. 3).

5. Open and close the liftgate several times while checking liftgate latch operation.
6. Is the liftgate open indicator illuminated and/or does the liftgate not close fully?
   • YES>>> Continue with the Repair Procedure Step #7.
   • NO>>> This bulletin has been completed.
7. Remove the liftgate striker fastener covers (1) (Fig. 4).

8. Loosen the liftgate striker fasteners (1) (Fig. 5).
9. Move the striker approximately 1 mm (0.04 in.) toward the rear of the vehicle (Fig. 5).
10. Tighten the striker fasteners (1) to 25 N·m (18 Ft. Lbs.) (Fig. 5).

11. Verify proper liftgate latch operation.
12. Install the liftgate striker fastener covers (1) (Fig. 4).
