These instructions guide the technician through the removal of the tank, installation of the new gaskets (FF6510) and tank re-installation

Labor rate for completion of this bulletin is 2.0 hour at VMI warranty labor rates. Replacement seals will be provided by VMI Technical Support. To file a claim contact VMI Tech Support at 800 488 9082 .

1. Remove as much fuel from vehicle tank as possible. Place vehicle on lift and remove left rear inner fender using either a trim tool or 10m socket

2. Expose fuel fill line and vent lines. Locate UPPER worm clamp attaching the fuel fill line. Loosen worm clamp above metal fill line where it attaches to rubber hose using standard screw driver. (5/16 socket may also be used)

3. Locate fuel vent line by filler line and disconnect using standard screw driver or other pry tool

4. Remove LOWER worm clamp where it attaches to the fuel tank. Remove the fill line from the vehicle taking care not to drop or otherwise damage the line.

5. Locate the vapor canister located to the left of the fuel tank. CAREFULLY remove the UPPER vent line connector making sure not to damage either the connector or vapor canister.

6. Place transmission jack under fuel tank prior to tank removal

7. Locate fuel tank straps and remove using the 13 and 14 mm socket assy.

IMPORTANT: Note that the front attach points use washers as spacers BETWEEN the tank strap and the frame. Make sure to capture them and save them for re-install

8. Carefully lower tank until you can get your hand above it. Remove the attaching fuel line and sending unit connector on the top of the tank prior to dropping the tank further and removing it.

IMPORTANT: Prior to dis-assembly. Note the notch in the tank upper ring seal and mark it’s location on the tank

Note; The fuel pump/sending unit is spring loaded and may pop up when upper seal plate is removed.

10.Remove nuts and washers attaching upper seal plate, saving them for re-assembly. Remove upper seal plate and mark on the tank, the location of the tab on the fuel pump/ sending unit.

9. Put one hand into tank, supporting lower tank seal and split plate. Remove upper tank seal.

10. Fold inner split plate and old seal and remove them.

11. Install lower seal on split plate.

NOTE: Make sure notch on seal and notch on split plate line up prior to installation

12. Fold and install lower seal and split plate

NOTE: Make SURE the notch in the lower split plate and seal line up with the mark on the tank.

13. Use retaining washers purchased locally (NAPA 66525380) to HOLD the lower seal assembly in position

14. Clean tank surface and install upper seal on top of tank and retaining washers.

NOTE: Make sure notch in upper seal lines up with mark made on tank earlier

15. Re-install fuel pump/sending unit.

NOTE: Make sure tab on fuel pump/sending unit lines up with positioning marks made on the tank earlier.

IMPORTANT: Improper installation may create clearance issues and inproper sending unit readings

16. Install upper seal plate making sure the tab on the fuel pump/sending unit lines up with the indent in the lower face of the upper seal plate.

17. Install fuel pump/ sending unit upper seal plate, washers and nuts.

NOTE; these nuts are to be tightened to  10ft./lb.
