Manufacturer Chrysler
(FCA US, LLC)
Components SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL
Potential Number of Units Affected 1,451
Summary
Chrysler
(FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain Mopar Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Control Modules. Please refer to the recall report for a complete list of part numbers. The ABS control module software may prevent the electronic stability control (ESC) malfunction indicator light from illuminating during certain conditions. As such, these modules fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems.”
Remedy
Dealers will update the software, repurchase, or replace the ABS control modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US LLC’s number for this recall is Z25.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – Z25
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced an equipment safety recall on certain Mopar Antilock Brake System (ABS) control module part numbers (PN’s)below:
68453770AB, 68453770AC, 68453770AD, 68477878AB, 68477878AC, 68477878AD, 68563815AB, 68526616AB, 68526242AD.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Customers may have purchased the above ABS control module PN’s that may have software which prevents the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) telltale lamp from properly displaying under certain conditions. Unexpected performance of the ESC system with no warning to the driver can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 571.126 S5.3 ESC Malfunction requires that “The vehicle must be equipped with a telltale that provides a warning to the driver of the occurrence of one or more malfunctions that affect the generation or transmission of control or response signals in the vehicle’s electronic stability control system.” Suspect vehicles may not display the ESC malfunction indicator lamp under certain conditions leaving the driver unaware of degraded ESC system that is not limiting engine torque during an ESC event.
SERVICE ACTION
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected parts to repurchase suspect ABS control modules. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 1st Quarter of 2022.

• On February 23, 2022, FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”)
organization recognized that the ESC system malfunction indicator lamp may not illuminate under certain
conditions when the ESC system experienced a fault, potentially not in compliance with FMVSS No. 126.
• On March 03, 2022, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary
safety recall of the affected units.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected parts to update
the software, repurchase, or replace suspect ABS control modules.
FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who
have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes
the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the
owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or
other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the

Description of Noncompliance :
Description of the
Noncompliance :
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) 571.126 S5.3 ESC
Malfunction requires that “The vehicle must be equipped with a telltale that
provides a warning to the driver of the occurrence of one or more malfunctions
that affect the generation or transmission of control or response signals in the
vehicle’s electronic stability control system.” Suspect parts may not display the
ESC malfunction indicator lamp under certain malfunction conditions that
affect the generation or transmission of control or response signals in the
vehicle’s electronic stability control system, leaving the driver unaware of
degraded ESC system performance that is not limiting engine torque during an
ESC event.
FMVSS 1 : 126 – Electronic stability control systems
FMVSS 2 : NR
Description of the Safety Risk : Unexpected performance of the ESC system with no warning to the driver can
cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
Description of the Cause : NR

The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573
Country : United States
Chronology :
• On November 15, 2021, during an unrelated FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) engineering vehicle test, it was noticed
when a certain diagnostic trouble code became active, the ESC malfunction indicator lamp was not illuminated.
• On December 9, 2021, supplier testing verified the issue on some 2021-2022 MY Dodge Durango vehicles and
2019-2022 MY Ram 2500/3500 trucks.
• On January 3, 2022, the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened a
safety investigation based on engineering testing that the ESC malfunction indicator lamp may not illuminate.
• From January 2022, through February 2022, FCA US TSRC reviewed vehicle records and met with FCA US
engineering to review the issue and understand the part design and change history.
• On February 23, 2022, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized that the ESC system malfunction indicator
lamp may not illuminate under certain conditions when the ESC system experienced a fault, potentially not in
compliance with FMVSS No.
To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the
owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or
other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the
expense.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
The remedy is updated ABS control module software that will meet FMVSS
126 ESC Malfunction requirements.
