The front seat head restraint on about 137 of the above vehicles may have been built with an off-location weld(s) on the front seat head restraint frames. S4.1 requires that “a head restraint that conforms to either S4.2 [static strength] or S4.3 [dynamic strength] of this section must be provided at each front outboard designated seating position.” Vehicles built with a front seat head restraint frame manufactured with an off-location weld may not meet the FMVSS 202a S4.2 static strength requirements. Remedy Available IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also consider this requirement to apply to used vehicle inventory and should perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Lift up on the head restraint, squeeze the outer side tab, and at the same time using a trim tool push the on the inner tab while pulling up on each side of the head restraint to release head restraint out from the seat and DISCARD (Figure 1). 3. Align the NEW head restraint to the head restraint guides and insert the head restraint into the guides push down to lock into position. 4. Verify proper head restraint operation. 5. Return the vehicle to the customer. Note: If the vehicle was received by your dealership (KZX date) AFTER the stop sale date, you will use the KZX date instead of the stop sale date. For this Recall, the stop sale was initiated on 04/21/2022 and the remedy was made available on 05/31/2022, therefore, the number of days cannot exceed 40 days. All involved vehicles have been entered into the DealerCONNECT Global Recall System (GRS) and Vehicle Information Plus (VIP) for dealer inquiry as needed. GRS provides involved dealers with an updated VIN list of their incomplete vehicles. The owner’s name, address and phone number are listed if known. Completed vehicles are removed from GRS within several days of repair claim submission.
