SUBJECT:
3.0L Diesel Alternator Inoperative
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing an alternator and a splash shield on the alternator.
MODELS:

NOTE: This bulletin applies to:
- all 2007 and 2008 WK vehicles equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine (sales code EXL)
- all LE/WH/XH vehicles equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine (sales code EXL) built before June 17, 2008 (MDH00617XX)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle operator or technician may notice oil marks (witness marks) on the alternator. This condition can only happen while pouring the oil into the engine and care is not taken to ensure none is spilled.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the alternator is inoperative perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
- Replace the alternator. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 08 – Electrical > 8F – Engine Systems > Charging > Generator (Alternator) > Removal/Installation – 3.0L Diesel.
CAUTION: **Ensure the capacitor wire is properly clipped, so it doesn’t get pinched when the shield is installed.**
- Install the splash shield (p/n 04801798aa) on top of the alternator. This splash shield snaps into the grooves on top of the alternator.
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
