Reason for Vent Link Modification:
At some point, Ram started using a larger driveline on MEGA Cab Models which positioned it closer to the S&B Tank. In a hot climate with close to a full tank of diesel fuel, the S&B Tank can swell outward making contact with the driveline. As a result, fuel may leak and increase the risk of fire and injury. The following instructions will add additional vapor space and prevent the tank from being overfilled. Visit www.sbfilters.com/10-1021recall to view the installation video. Step 1. Confirm Adequate Space Between Tank & Driveline:
Use black plastic feeler gauge to check clearance between the tank and driveline forward of the front strap. If you are not able to get the feeler gauge between the tank and the driveline as shown in the image below, please email us a picture at [email protected].
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECALL RELATED TO
S&B Diesel Fuel Tank Installed On 2005-2022 6.7L 2500-3500 Trucks
HTSA ID 22E069 STEP 2:
Use a hose cutter to cut the 5/16” fuel line (approximately in the middle) that connects one side of the tank to the other. STEP 3:
Insert the included 5/16” white plugs into each end of the hose you just cut in step 2. STEP 4:
Install Extension Vent Line: Find the 5/16” vent link that is connected to the top of the tank as shown on item 12 on the exploded view. Cut or remove the breather cap and install the insured S&B 5/16” extension hose. Zip tie to the filler neck so it is sloped upward.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. 49 C.F.R. § 577.5(b). S&B Filters, Inc. (“S&B”) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in its diesel fuel tank (“Tank”) (part number 10-1021) for 2005-2022 5.9L and 6.7L 2500-3500 vehicles, MEGA CAB models ONLY. What is the issue?
At some point, RAM started using a larger driveline on MEGA Cab Models which positioned it closer to the S&B Tank. In a hot climate with close to a full tank of diesel fuel, the S&B Tank can swell outward making contact with the driveline. As a result, fuel may leak and increase the risk of fire and injury. How can you determine if your S&B Tank is affected by this recall?
Only MEGA Cabs are affected by this recall. If you own a Quad or Crew Cab, please disregard. What will S&B do?
S&B is conducting a safety recall and will provide you with necessary components and instructions to modify the venting which will add vapor space and prevent overfilling. Installation will take approximately 30 minutes and can be performed without dropping the Tank. This remedy will be performed free of charge for you by an Authorized Dealer or S&B will compensate you $150 to perform the work yourself.
What should you do? The necessary remedy parts are now available and will be sent along with this recall notice and install instructions to your address on file. If you have moved or don’t receive these parts within 7 days, please visit www.sbfilters.com/10-1021recall, click on the Request Venting Components and complete the online form. If you don’t have access to the internet, please call 909.947.0015 and press option 5. If you choose to handle the installation yourself, you are entitled to $150 and can request payment at www.sbfilters.com/10-1021recall. There is also an option on this same webpage to schedule an Authorized Dealer to perform the work for you if you prefer. In an abundance of caution, you should NOT drive your truck with more than half (½) of a tank of diesel fuel until the issue has been remedied by modifying
the venting according to the instructions.. This is an important Safety Recall.
The remedy will take approximately 30 minutes to perform, however depending on a dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time. Without the venting modification included with this recall, diesel fuel could expand on a hot day and if the tank is full, it could swell in the area toward the front of the larger driveline offered on Mega Cabs which may cause an increased risk of fire if the driveline impacts the diesel fuel tank and causes a leak.

Description of the Cause : At some point, Ram started producing Mega Cab models with a driveline that is larger in diameter than the Crew and Quad Cab models. A larger diameter driveline caused the driveline to be positioned closer to the S&B Tank. With the clearance provided between the driveline and tank decreased, the normal expansion of fuel on a hot day could cause the tank to swell in this area when the tank is full. S&B was not aware of this issue (larger drivelines on Mega Cab models) until it received the initial reports from customers. S&B did not believe that these initial reports indicated any type of safety issue. Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur : The driver should hear an audible noise and could feel a vibration prior to a leak occuring. These warnings, however, may not be present in all instances. The venting modification can be installed by the consumer or a dealer in 30 minutes or less. If the consumer elects to install the venting modification, S&B will compensate them in the amount of $150 for their time, or they can elect to have one of our Authorized Dealers install it at no cost. The venting modification and instructions will be available to send to consumers within 7-10 days of this Report. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : NR S&B modified the tooling to provide more clearance between the tank and the larger driveline on Mega Cab models and changed the venting to prevent overfilling and allow for more vapor space in order to minimize any swelling of the tank when it is full on hot days. These changes were made as of August 1, 2022. Recall Schedule :

On 4/8/22, we had the driveline rub our diesel fuel tank and leak on a truck. There was no damage to the vehicle nor any injury. While we were unsure as to the cause of the leak, we promptly replaced the tank to maintain the highest level of customer service. We had one more incident in May, but were still unsure of the cause since there are many different factors including but not limited to an in bed auxiliary gravity fed tank, non-compatible aftermarket components, etc that could have caused the issue . In June we had 8 situations that were similar in nature with this part number. We performed testing in house but were unable to replicate the issue. As the summer grew hotter, we had 17 leaks in July and 6 more before we initiated the recall on 8/17/22. As I mentioned, there were multiple potential causes of the tank leaking that could have been unrelated to our tank which is why we didn’t initiate the recall sooner. That being said, we did come to the conclusion sometime around August that the likely cause was as identified in the recall letter. At that point, we issued the recall. We have sent out notifications via First Class Mail (with tracking) and via email. We have also called non-responsive customers and dealers. To-date, there have been no reported injuries or property damage related to a tank leaking. Description of Remedy :
