FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2022 and 2023 model year (VF) Ram ProMaster vehicles.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some of the above vehicles may have been built with a driver seat belt buckle with an incorrect switch sense magnet. Suspect vehicles may incorrectly activate the warning system indicating that the seat belt is unlatched when it is latched. Failure to detect whether an occupant is buckled can impede the seatbelt warning system from deactivating when the belt is properly fastened, potentially leading to reduced seat belt use which can increase the chance of injury in certain crashes.
The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 571.208 Occupant Crash Protection S7.3 (a) states that “A seat belt assembly provided at the driver’s seating position shall be equipped with a warning system that, at the option of the manufacturer, either [about warning options and vehicle conditions] … (b) The vehicle’s ignition switch is moved to the on position or to the start position. (c) The driver’s lap belt is not in use, as determined, at the option of the manufacturer, either by the belt latch mechanism not being fastened, or by the belt not being extended at least 4 inches from its stowed position.”
SERVICE ACTION
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver seat belt buckle. The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2024.

Descriptive Information : Some 2022-2023 MY Ram ProMaster vehicles may have been built with a driver seat belt buckle with an incorrect switch sense magnet. The suspect period began on March 7, 2022, when buckles with incorrect switch sense magnets were introduced into vehicle production, and ended on August 01, 2022, when buckles with incorrect switch sense magnets were no longer used in vehicle production. The suspect period was determined using supplier and vehicle production records. Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built with buckles with correct switch sense magnets, or were built before or after the suspect period. • On June 14, 2022, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to driver seat belt buckles not properly indicating the latched condition on some 2022 and 2023 MY Ram ProMaster vehicles. • From June 2022, through October 2022, FCA US TSRC analyzed warranty claims, customer records, and vehicle history to identify incidents of potentially faulty driver seat belt functionality. In parallel, FCA US TSRC held initial meetings with FCA US Restraints Engineering and Manufacturing to review the issue, understand the part design, assembly process, and failure mode. • From October 2022, through October 2023, FCA US TSRC held initial meetings with FCA US Interior Engineering, and ongoing meetings with FCA US Restraints Engineering and Manufacturing to continue to review the issue and understand the potential consequence. • From October 2023 through January 2024, FCA US TSRC reviewed supplier and vehicle production records to establish the suspect population. • On January 24, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue existed on certain vehicles related to potentially faulty driver seat belt buckle switch sense magnets, which may result in a noncompliance with FMVSS No. 208 Occupant Crash Protection. • On February 15, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to

FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
The remedy component is a driver seat belt buckle that meets FMVSS 208 Occupant Crash Protection requirements.

FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2022 and 2023 model year (VF) Ram ProMaster vehicles.
VINs identified as being involved in this campaign are currently live and searchable. Stop sale is in effect for the above-identified vehicles.
Vehicles impacted by a stop sale are eligible for reimbursement allowance through the Recall Floorplan Reimbursement Policy (RFPRP), which can be requested upon recall claim submission.

IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $27,168 per vehicle. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.
