THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETIN 07-004-15, DATED March 18, 2015, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE A CHANGE TO VEHICLE APPLICABILITY.

THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 15-027. ALL APPLICABLE SOLD AND UN-SOLD RRT VIN’s HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. ALL REPAIRS ARE REIMBURSABLE WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF WARRANTY.

THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT 15.04 OR HIGHER TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.

 

SUBJECT:

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated DTC P1D73 Active Grill Shutter (AGS) Performance

 

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves inspecting and securing the AGS actuator motor case housing.

 

MODELS:

2014 – 2015	(DS)	Ram 1500 Pickup
2015	(DX)	Ram 1500 Pickup (Mexico)

 

NOTE: **This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before February 01, 2015 (MDH 0201XX) equipped with Active Grille Shutters (sales code MDX) and 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine (sales code ERB) or 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT Engine (sales code EZH).**

 

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may describe the MIL is illuminated. On further inspection the technician may find the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1D73 Active Grill Shutter (AGS) Performance.

 

DIAGNOSIS:

Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition listed above or if the technician finds the DTC, perform the Repair Procedure.

 

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the six push pin fasteners (1) from upper radiator seal (Fig. 1).
2. Remove the upper radiator seal (2) (Fig. 1).

3. Locate the AGS actuator motor case housing (1) (Fig. 2).

4. Inspect the AGS actuator motor case housing for unlocked retainer (1) and separation

(2) of the actuator motor case housing halves (Fig. 3).

5. Is an unlocked retainer (1) and/or housing separation (2) visible? As shown in (Fig. 3).
   • Yes >>> Proceed to Step #8.
   • No >>> Continue to Step #6.

6. Grasp both halves of the actuator housing and apply outward pressure while inspecting for any separation movement between the housing halves (Fig. 4).
7. Was any movement or housing separation visible while applying outward pressure?
   • Yes >>> Continue to Step #8.
   • No >>> This bulletin has been completed. Install the upper radiator seal and use LOP (23-02-01-95) to close the active RRT. If DTC P1D73 was present, normal diagnosis may need to be performed.

8. Engage the actuator motor case housing retainer by using adjustable pliers to close the housing halves (Fig. 5).

9. Inspect for engagement of the AGS actuator motor case housing retainer (1) and that no separation (2) is visible between the actuator motor case housing halves (Fig. 6).

10. Grasp both halves of the actuator housing and apply outward pressure while inspecting for any separation movement between the housing halves (Fig. 7).
11. Was any movement or housing separation visible while applying outward pressure?
    • Yes >>> Continue to Step #12.
    • No >>> This bulletin has been completed. Install the upper radiator seal and use LOP (23-02-01-95) to close the active RRT. If DTC P1D73 was present, clear the DTC and check the AGS for proper operation.

12. Repeat Step #8 through Step #11. If the AGS actuator motor case housing retainer fails to lock after repeated attempts, continue to Step #13.
13. Replace the AGS assembly and clear any DTCs that may have been set. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 23 – Body> Exterior> GRILLE, Active Shutter> Removal/Installation.
