THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 15-039. ALL APPLICABLE UN-SOLD RRT VIN’s HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE UN-SOLD VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. FOR VEHICLES NOT INCLUDED IN THE RRT VIN LIST, APPLICATION OF THIS SERVICE BULLETIN TO SOLD UNITS IS BASED UPON THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCING THE SYMPTOM/CONDITIONS. Passive Entry And/Or Trunk Latch Not Operating – Install Shorter License Plate Screws
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the four rear license plate attachment screws.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or after November 29, 2014 (MDH 1129XX) and on or before February 26, 2015 (MDH 0226XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The rear license plate attachment screws provided with the vehicle may damage the wire harness containing the circuits for the trunk latch and/or passive entry antenna which may cause the passive entry and/or trunk latch not to operate properly.
If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
- Are the rear license plate screws (Fig. 1) installed in the rear bumper fascia?
- YES>>> Continue with Step #2.
- NO>>> Proceed to Step #4.
- Test the passive entry and trunk latch to determine if they operate.
- YES>>> Passive entry and trunk latch are operating. This bulletin has been completed. Use LOP (08-90-21-90) to close the active RRT.
- NO>>> Passive entry and/or trunk latch do NOT operate. Continue with Step #3.
- Inspect the passive entry antenna wire harness. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 08 Electrical> 8N – Power Systems> Power Locks> ANTENNA, Passive Entry> Removal/Installation> Rear Fascia Bracket. If the wire harness containing the circuits for the trunk latch and passive entry antenna was pierced by a license plate attachment screw, repair the wire harness. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 29 – Non-DTC Diagnostics> Circuit Testing Procedures> Standard Procedure> Wire Splicing.
- Will a licence plate frame be used with licence plate equaling a stack-up thickness of 3 mm (0.12 in.) or greater?
- YES>>> Combined stack-up thickness of licence plate and frame equals or exceeds 3 mm (0.12 in.). Continue to Step #5.
- NO>>> Total thickness of licence plate (and frame if used) is less than 3 mm (0.12in.). Proceed to Step #6.
NOTE: Step #5 ONLY applies to a licence plate and frame with a combined stack-up thickness which equals or exceeds 3 mm (0.12 in.).
- Install the licence plate and frame using the 19 mm (0.75 in.) long screws supplied with the vehicle (Fig. 1). This bulletin has been completed.
NOTE: Step #6 and Step #7 ONLY apply to a licence plate (and frame if used) with a total thickness of less than 3 mm (0.12 in.).
- Discard the 19 mm (0.75 in.) long screws supplied with the vehicle (Fig. 1).
- Install the license plate (and frame if used) with the four NEW 11 mm (0.433 in.) long screws specified in the Parts Required section (Fig. 1). This bulletin has been completed.
