SUBJECT:

Front Passenger Fold Flat Seat Back Inoperative

 

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves adjusting the passenger fold flat seat back cable.

 

MODELS:

2014 – 2015 (KL) Jeep Cherokee

 

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before April 1, 2015 (MDH 0401XX) equipped with the passenger fold flat front seat (Sales Codes CDW).

 

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may describe that the passenger front fold flat seat back is inoperative and the seat back will not fold down.

 

DIAGNOSIS:

If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.

 

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE: Upon completion of the seat installation it will be necessary to use a scan tool to configure the occupant classification module.

  1. Remove the passenger seat from the vehicle. Refer to 23 – Body/Seats, Front/SEAT/Removal.
  2. Remove the inboard and outboard side shields from the seat. Refer to 23 Body/Seats, Front/SIDE SHIELDS, Seat Cushion, Front/Removal.
  3. Locate the cable adjuster (1) on the outboard side of the seat (Fig. 1).

  1. Use your fingers to spread the two tabs (Fig. 2) on the U shaped lock and slide it out about 5mm. The adjuster should now be able to move.

  1. If the end of the cable has come out of the lever place the end of the cable back into the lever (1) on the recliner (Fig. 3).
  2. Push the top of the seat back rearward to ensure that the recliners are fully locked

  1. Use two fingers to hold the inboard side recliner lever closed. Ensure that this does not move as you are moving the adjuster (Fig. 4).

  1. While holding the recliner closed with one hand use the other hand to pull the movable end of the conduit out of the adjuster as far as possible to remove all slack (Fig. 5).

  1. While pulling the conduit use the same hand to lock the adjuster (1) in place (Fig. 6)

  1. Verify that there is no slack in the cable (Fig. 7).

  1. Adjust the passenger seat back to the downward and full upward positions. Was the seat back able to move?
    1. NO>>> Repeat Step #4.
    2. YES>>> Repair is completed.
    3. Reinstall inboard and outboard side shields to the seat. Refer to 23 – Body/Seats, Front/SIDE SHIELDS, Seat Cushion, Front/Installation.
    4. Reinstall passenger seat to the vehicle, with the use of a scan tool, configure the occupant classification module. Refer to 23 – Body/Seats, Front/SEAT/Installation.
