SUBJECT:
Vehicle Pulls Or Drifts While Applying The Brakes
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves cleaning the front brake rotor friction surfaces and replacing the front brake pads.
MODELS:
| 2012 – 2015 | (DS) | RAM |
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries:
NAFTA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before July 10, 2015 (MDH 0710XX).
DISCUSSION:
The brake rotors on this vehicle come with an anti-corrosion coating applied that is grey in color. This coating is designed to wear off during the first miles of driving. This coating can stick to the brake pad friction surface. This may be felt by the customer as a vehicle pull or drift during braking.
NOTE: Do not replace the brake rotors or calipers for this concern.
If the pull or drift condition exists, replace only the brake pads because the coating has become embedded in the friction material and cannot be removed. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 05 – Brakes, Base> Hydraulic/Mechanical> PADS, Brake> Removal/Installation.
Clean the rotors using MOPAR brake cleaner or equivalent to remove the anti-corrosion coating ONLY from the area where the brake pads contact the rotor surface.
NOTE: Cleaning more than the friction surfaces on the rotor can cause premature corrosion of other rotor surfaces.
VERIFICATION:
Test drive the vehicle to verify the pulling or drifting condition while braking has been eliminated. If the issue persists, continue with normal brake system diagnosis.
