SUBJECT:

Front Of Vehicle Lateral Vibration During Low Speed Acceleration

 

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves replacing both front half shafts.

 

MODELS:

**2014 – 2017** (KL) Jeep Cherokee

 

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: NAFTA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before **September 12, 2016 (MDH 0912XX)** equipped with Jeep Active Drive I (Sales Code DK2) with a 9-SPD 948TE Auto Trans (Sales Code DFH or DF5).

 

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may describe a lateral wiggle, wobble, shake, shimmy, or shudder type vibration in the vehicle while accelerating at low speeds, typically between 16-32 kph (10-20 mph).

 

DIAGNOSIS:

If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.

C-4150A Press, Ball Joint (Originally Shipped In Kit Number(s) 6672, 6745)
10287 Tool, Front Hub Staking (Originally Shipped In Kit Number(s) 10324-UPD2, 10409-UPD3)

 

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

  1. Inspect the front axle half shafts to identify which type is currently installed in the vehicle. Refer to (Fig. 1).
    1. Straight Diameter Center Shaft (Fig. 1)>>> Continue with the Repair Procedure Step #2.
    2. Stepped Diameter Center Shaft (Fig. 1)>>> This Bulletin does not apply. Normal diagnosis should be performed.

NOTE: The axle hub nut and the lower ball joint stud nut are not reusable and must be replaced.

  1. Remove the front half shafts with straight diameter center shaft and replace with the stepped diameter center shaft half shafts listed in this bulletin. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 03 – Differential and Driveline> Half Shaft, Front> Removal/Installation.
