THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 16-059. ALL APPLICABLE UN-SOLD RRT VIN’s HAVE BEEN LOADED. Incorrectly Installed Rear Brake Caliper

 

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves inspecting both rear brake caliper hoses for being kinked or rubbing.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries:

NAFTA, **LATAM and EMEA.**

NOTE: **This bulletin applies to DS vehicles built on or after August 08, 2015 (MDH 0808XX) and on or before October 21, 2015 (MDH 1021XX).

NOTE: This bulletin applies to DX vehicles built on or after August 06, 2015 (MDH 0806XX) and on or before October 21, 2015 (MDH 1021XX).**

 

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some vehicles may have been built with the rear brake caliper installed 360° incorrectly onto the caliper adapter mounting bracket.

 

DIAGNOSIS:

If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers vehicles that exhibit the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure. Very few vehicles are expected to require this repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 04 – Vehicle Quick Reference> Hoisting – Standard Procedure.

NOTE: There is no need to remove the tire and wheel assembly for visual inspection. It can be performed once the vehicle is raised.

2. Is either the left or right rear brake hose kinked, twisted or rubbing on the rear axle, **wheel or tire**?
   • YES>>> Proceed to Step #3.
   • NO>>> This bulletin has been completed, use LOP (05-30-05-91) to close the active RRT.
3. Does the brake hose show signs of wear or leaking? ( 1).
   • YES>>> Proceed to Step #4.
   • NO>>> The brake hose is kinked, twisted or rubbing with no signs of wear. Proceed to Step #5.
4. Replace the rear brake hose, **banjo bolt(s) and washers** on the affected side of the vehicle. Refer to 05 – Brakes/05 – Brakes, Base/Hydraulic/Mechanical/Tubes and Hoses, Brake/Removal/Installation.

NOTE: **Discard the old banjo bolt and washers when replacing a brake hose. New washers and a banjo bolt must be used on installation.**

5. Remove the brake caliper from the caliper adapter mount and rotate the assembly 360° and reinstall properly **making sure there is no contact against rear axle, wheel or tire**(Fig. 2). Tighten the brake caliper mounting slide pin bolts to 30 N·m (22 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to 22 – Tires and Wheels/Wheels/Standard Procedure.
7. Lower the vehicle. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 04 – Vehicle Quick Reference> Hoisting – Standard Procedure.
