Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 Pick-up trucks equipped with an accessory bed step. In certain side loading conditions, the bed step may unexpectedly fail while in use.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the bed step support brace, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin August 6, 2020 (RAM 2500) and October 22, 2020 (Ram 3500). Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s numbers for this recall are W24 and W44.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – W24
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2019 and 2020 Model Year (DJ) Ram 2500 Pickup and (D2) Ram 3500 Pickup vehicles equipped with a bed step.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some of the above vehicles were built with a bed step which may fail in certain angular or side-load loading conditions. If a sufficient side-load is applied to the bed step, its mounting bracket may fracture and cause the bed step to suddenly and unexpectedly fail while in use, which can increase the risk of an injury to the user.
SERVICE ACTION
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to replace the bed step mounting bracket on all sold vehicles. The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2020.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – W24
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2019 and 2020 Model Year (DJ) Ram 2500 Pickup and (D2) Ram 3500 Pickup vehicles equipped with a bed step.
VINs identified as being involved in this campaign are currently live and searchable. Stop sale is in effect for the above-identified vehicles.
Vehicles impacted by a stop sale are eligible for reimbursement allowance through the Recall Floorplan Reimbursement Policy (RFPRP), which can be requested upon recall claim submission.
IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.

IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on vehicles in for service.
Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.
Subject
The bed step on about 15,600 of the above vehicles may fail in certain angular or side-load loading conditions. If a sufficient side-load is applied to the bed step, its mounting bracket may fracture and cause the bed step to suddenly and unexpectedly fail while in use, which can increase the risk of an injury to the user.
Repair
Replace the bed step support brace.

Render the recalled bed step brace unusable and discard.
Special Tools
No special tools are required to perform this service procedure.
Service Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the two bolts securing the bed step brace and SAVE the large M16 bolt, DISCARD the small M8 bolt (Figure 1).
- Remove the recalled bed step brace then render it unusable and DISCARD. (Figure 1).
- Loosen but do not remove the two bolts securing the bed step (Figure 2).
- Install the NEW bed step brace (Figure 3).
NOTE: Do NOT tighten the bolts.
- Loose install the NEW M8 bolt included in the campaign kit then the M16 bolt saved from the removal step (Figure 3).
- Tighten the bolts in the following sequence (Figure 4):
NOTE: After tightening the bed step bolts (1) and before tightening the bracket bolts (2, 3) check for clearance between bed step and bumper with bed step in the stowed position. Adjust as necessary to avoid any contact.
Ø (1) M10 bed step bolts.
68 N·m (50 ft. lbs.)
Ø (2) M8 brace bolt.
22.5 N·m (16.5 ft. lbs.)
Ø (3) M16 brace bolt.
140 N·m (103 ft. lbs.)
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check operation of the bed step to ensure it functions properly (Figure 5).
- Return the vehicle to the customer.
Completion Reporting and Reimbursement
Claims for vehicles that have been serviced must be submitted on the DealerCONNECT Claim Entry Screen located on the Service tab. Claims paid will be used by FCA to record recall service completions and provide dealer payments.
Use the following labor operation number and time allowance:

Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
All involved vehicle owners known to FCA are being notified of the service requirement by first class mail. They are requested to schedule appointments for this service with their dealers. A generic copy of the owner letter is attached.
Vehicle Lists, Global Recall System, VIP and Dealer Follow Up
All involved vehicles have been entered into the DealerCONNECT Global Recall System (GRS) and Vehicle Information Plus (VIP) for dealer inquiry as needed.
GRS provides involved dealers with an updated VIN list of their incomplete vehicles. The owner’s name, address and phone number are listed if known. Completed vehicles are removed from GRS within several days of repair claim submission.
To use this system, click on the “Service” tab and then click on “Global Recall System.” Your dealer’s VIN list for each recall displayed can be sorted by: those vehicles that were unsold at recall launch, those with a phone number, city, zip code, or VIN sequence.
Dealers must perform this repair on all unsold vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also use the VIN list to follow up with all owners to schedule appointments for this repair.
Recall VIN lists may contain confidential, restricted owner name and address information that was obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles of various states. Use of this information is permitted for this recall only and is strictly prohibited from all other use.
