05/13/2022 _____________________________________________________________________ New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – Z41 FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2022 Model Year (WL) Jeep® Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L vehicles. REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL Some of the above vehicles may flash the hazard lights during certain braking events. If the hazard lights flash during a braking event, following drivers may become confused by the additional lighting, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) 108 Table 1-a which requires that stop lamps shall be “steady burning.” Vehicles that activate the hazard lights when the brake pedal is applied are not steady burning. SERVICE ACTION FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to update configuration parameters in the body control module. The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2022. We ask that you please take the time to ensure that your personnel are aware of this communication and are prepared to execute a customer friendly process for inquiries regarding involved vehicles. If the hazard lights flash during a braking event, following drivers may become confused by the additional lighting, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. Use wiTech to reconfigure the Body Control Module (BCM). No parts are required to perform this service procedure. No parts return required for this campaign. Reconfigure the BCM NOTE: The wiTECH scan tool must be used to perform this recall. The wiTECH software is required to be at the latest release level before performing this procedure. 1. Open the hood. Install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides 13.0 to 13.5 volts. Do not allow the charger to time out during the flash process. Set the battery charger timer (if so equipped) to continuous charge. NOTE: Use an accurate stand-alone voltmeter. The battery charger volt meter may not be sufficiently accurate. If voltage reading is too high, apply an electrical load by activating the park or headlamps and/or HVAC blower motor to lower the voltage. 2. Place the ignition in the “RUN” position. 3. Connect the wiTECH MDP to the vehicle data link connector. 4. Open the wiTECH 2.0 website. 5. Enter your “User id” and “Password” and your “Dealer Code”, then select “Sign In” at the bottom of the screen. Click “Accept”. 6. From the “Vehicle Selection” screen, select the vehicle to be updated. 7. From the “Action Items” screen, from the left column, select “Guided Diagnostics”. 8. Select “Restore Vehicle Configuration” and follow on-screen prompts. NOTE: If the “Restore Vehicle Configuration” option is not available, the vehicle is up to date. Claim the “Restore Vehicle Configuration” LOP to close the recall.
