Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Jeep
Wrangler, Ram
1500, and 2021-2022 Jeep
Gladiator vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. The high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) may fail, causing an engine stall.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the HPFP and inspect and replace additional fuel system components, as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on November 29, 2022. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 24, 2023. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler
’s number for this recall is Z96.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – Z96
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2020 through 2022 Model Year (JL) Jeep® Wrangler, 2021 through 2022 Model Year (JT) Jeep
® Gladiator and 2020 through 2022 Model Year (DT) Ram
1500 Pickup vehicles equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some of the above vehicles equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine may have been built with a high pressure fuel pump (“HPFP”) that could fail prematurely. A HPFP failure may introduce internally failed component debris into the fuel system potentially causing fuel starvation. Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of motive power, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
SERVICE ACTION
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to replace the HPFP, and inspect and, if necessary, replace additional fuel system components. The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2023.
Chronology :
- On February 9, 2022, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation into 2020-2022 MY Jeep
Wrangler, 2021-2022 MY Jeep
Gladiator, and 2020-2022 MY Ram
1500 vehicles for potential premature high pressure fuel pump failures in vehicles equipped with the 3.0L diesel engine which may result in a stall.
- From February 2022, through August 2022, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of stall patterns and vehicle history, determined that the affected vehicles were equipped with the Bosch CP4.2 high pressure fuel pump, and determined that the high pressure fuel pump was the origin of the stalls.
- As of September 29, 2022, FCA US is aware of 22 customer assistance records, 205 warranty claims, and 33 field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from June 18, 2020 to September 26, 2022.
- As of September 29, 2022, FCA US is aware of zero accidents and zero injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
- On October 6, 2022, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-767 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 • As of September 29, 2022, FCA US is aware of 22 customer assistance records, 205 warranty claims, and 33 field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from June 18, 2020 to September 26, 2022. • As of September 29, 2022, FCA US is aware of zero accidents and zero injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets. • On October 6, 2022, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to replace the HPFP, and inspect and, if necessary, replace additional fuel system components. FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
