June 9, 2022 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 22V407000
Rearview Image May Not Display/FMVSS 111
A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver’s rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V407000
Manufacturer Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)
Components BACK OVER PREVENTION
Potential Number of Units Affected 117,759
Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Ram 1500, 2500 pickup trucks, and 3500 Cab Chassis vehicles with GVWR less than 10,000 lbs. The radio software may prevent the rearview image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the radio software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 5, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLS’s number for this recall is Z47.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – Z47
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2022 Model Year (DT) Ram 1500 Pickup, (DJ) Ram 2500 Pickup, and (DF) Ram 3500 10K LB. Cab Chassis vehicles.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some of the above vehicles may have been built with an incompatible rearview camera system and radio combination that may prevent the rearview image from displaying under certain conditions. The vehicle operator will notice that the rearview image is not displayed if attempting to reference the image while backing. If this warning is not heeded, backing without verifying it is safe to do so could lead to an increased risk of injury to people outside the vehicle.
The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 571.111 S6.2.6 which requires that “The rear visibility system default to the rearview image being visible and meet the requirements of FMVSS 571.111 S6.2.1 (field of view) and S6.2.2 (image size) at the beginning of each backing event, regardless of any modifications to the field of view that the driver had previously selected.” Suspect vehicles may not display the rearview image during a backing event under certain conditions.
SERVICE ACTION
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to update the radio software. The remedy is currently under development. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2022.

- From November 2021, through January 2022, supplier testing was performed on vehicles in an attempt to duplicate the issue. The issue was not able to be duplicated until bench testing confirmed the issue on January 19, 2022.
- On January 26, 2022, the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened a safety investigation based on engineering testing for a potential noncompliance with FMVSS No. 111 Rear Visibility.
- In February 2022, FCA US Engineering performed comparison testing on Ram 2500 vehicles that have the same camera and radio and was unable to duplicate the issue.
- From February 2022, through April 2022, FCA US TSRC reviewed vehicle records and met with FCA US engineering to review the issue and understand the part design and change history.
- On May 11, 2022, FCA US TSRC recognized that the backup camera may fail internally resulting in the rearview camera image not displaying during a backing event, potentially not in compliance with FMVSS No. 111.
