Side Curtain Air Bag Inflators May Rupture
An inflator rupture may result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants, resulting in injury or death. In addition, an inflator rupture when not installed in a vehicle can result in injury or death of people nearby.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) (Stellantis) is recalling certain MOPAR right and left side curtain air bags, with part numbers 68222742AF, 68222743AF, 05108050AF, and 05108049AF, sold as replacement parts for certain 2011-2019 Dodge Charger and 2011-2020 Chrysler 300 vehicles. The replacement right and left side curtain air bag inflators may rupture due to a manufacturing defect.
Remedy
Dealers will replace or repurchase the side curtain air bags, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 3, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 20B.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – 20B
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain MOPAR Side Airbag Inflatable Curtain (SABIC) modules: Right Side Curtain Airbag 68222742AF, Left Side Curtain Airbag 68222743AF, intended for use on 2015 through 2019 model year (LD) Dodge Charger and 2015 through 2020 (LX) Chrysler 300 vehicles. Right Side Curtain Airbag 05108050AF, Left Side Curtain Airbag 05108049AF intended for use on 2011 through 2014 model year (LD) Dodge Charger and (LX) Chrysler 300 vehicles.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some SABIC modules may have been manufactured with an inflator that may rupture. A SABIC inflator rupture may result in compressed gas rapidly escaping from the inflator and material potentially being propelled into the vehicle. Material being propelled into an occupied vehicle, or in the direction of a person if the inflator is not installed in a vehicle, may cause injury.
SERVICE ACTION
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to replace both SABIC modules. The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2024.
Chronology :
- On February 17, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation into some 2018-2021 MY Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles that may have been built with a suspect SABIC inflator that may rupture.
- From February 17, 2023, through February 20, 2024, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of SABIC inflator ruptures and determined that the affected vehicles may have had moisture introduced into the inflator during supplier manufacturing that may cause internal corrosion over time and potentially leading to Stress Corrosion Cracking (“SCC”) in the inflator.
- As of February 21, 2024, FCA US is aware of five customer assistance records, two warranty claims, and 0 field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from February 17, 2023, to February 12, 2024.
- As of February 21, 2024, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially relating to this issue for all markets.
- On March 07, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected units.

The remedy component will be a SABIC module built with an inflator outside the suspect period.

• On February 17, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation into some 2018-2021 MY Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles that may have been built with a suspect SABIC inflator that may rupture. • From February 17, 2023, through February 20, 2024, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of SABIC inflator ruptures and determined that the affected vehicles may have had moisture introduced into the inflator during supplier manufacturing that may cause internal corrosion over time and potentially leading to Stress Corrosion Cracking (“SCC”) in the inflator. • As of February 21, 2024, FCA US is aware of five customer assistance records, two warranty claims, and 0 field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from February 17, 2023, to February 12, 2024. • As of February 21, 2024, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially relating to this issue for The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24E-024

• On March 07, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected units.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected parts to replace or repurchase the SABIC. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :

FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
The remedy component will be a SABIC module built with an inflator outside the suspect period.
