Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. An improperly connected coaxial cable may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
Remedy
Dealers will secure the coaxial cable connection, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 40B.

New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – 40B
FCA US LLC (FCA US) has announced a safety recall on certain 2022 – 2023 model year (WL) Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023 – 2024 model year (WL) Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some of the above vehicles may have been built with an inline connector for the rearview camera coaxial cable connector that is not properly secured and may prevent the camera signal from passing through to the media screen. The vehicle operator will notice that the rearview image is not displayed if attempting to reference the image while backing. If this warning is not heeded, backing up without verifying it is safe to do so could lead to an increased risk of injury to people outside the vehicle.
The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 571.111 S6.2.6 requires that “The rear visibility system default to the rearview image being visible and meet the requirements of FMVSS No. 571.111 S6.2.1 (field of view) and S6.2.2 (image size) at the beginning of each backing event, regardless of any modifications to the field of view that the driver had previously selected.” Vehicles with improperly connected coaxial cables may not display the rearview image during a backing event under certain conditions.
SERVICE ACTION
All vehicles in this recall have been remedied by securing the rearview camera coaxial cable connection. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods.
Chronology :
• On January 12, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to rearview cameras not displaying in some 2022-2024 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles.
• From January 2023, through April 2023, FCA US TSRC reviewed warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records to understand potential customer consequence.
• From April 2023, through July 2023, FCA US TSRC held regular meetings with FCA US Engineering to understand all potential failure modes of the issue and whether the behavior is regulated by FMVSS No.111. • From July 2023, through March 2024, FCA US TSRC held regular meetings with FCA US Supplier Operations, FCA US Engineering, and FCA US Manufacturing regularly to review manufacturing and quality control processes, part design, and production records to understand the scope of the issue.
• On April 10, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue existed on certain vehicles related to the rearview back up camera not displaying the rearview image, potentially causing a noncompliance with FMVSS No.111.
• On April 18, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : All vehicles in this recall have been remedied by securing the rearview
camera coaxial cable connection. Warranty records show these repairs occurred between August 11, 2022, and February 6, 2024. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production :
FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
This recall is not related to a part defect but rather an assembly issue where a coaxial cable may not have been properly secured during vehicle production. The remedy is to insure a proper connection.
