Driver Warnings May Not Illuminate

Failure of the instrument cluster to properly illuminate may prevent the driver from receiving warnings about the vehicle's systems, increasing the risk of crash.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."

Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018 Jeep Renegade, Compass and Grand Cherokee, RAM 1500 and Promaster, Fiat 500x, Dodge Journey, Challenger, Charger and Durango and Chrysler 300x vehicles, 2017-2018 Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles and 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee and Chrysler Pacifica vehicles. The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

 

MODELS:

2012 (LX) Chrysler 300
2012 (LD) Dodge Charger

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 6.4L engine (sales code ESG) and a NAG1 automatic transmission (sales code DGJ).

 

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

**A small number of customers may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. Upon further investigation the Technician may find that the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) has been set in the PCM memory:

  • U0140 - Lost Communication With Body Control Module (BCM) (Attempting to clear this DTC will be unsuccessful).**
  • P0573 - Brake Switch 1 Stuck Off.

NOTE: **This bulletin applies to LD and LX vehicles equipped with a 6.4L engine (Sales Code ESG) and a five speed automatic transmission (Sales Code DGJ).

NOTE: This bulletin applies to LC vehicles equipped with a 6.4L engine (Sales Code ESG or ESH) and a five speed automatic transmission (Sales Code DGJ) or a six speed manual transmission (Sales Code DEC).**

 

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

  • U0140 - Lost Communication With Body Control Module (Attempting to clear this DTC will be unsuccessful).
